Comfort Bicycles

I have been looking for information on comfort bicycles on the web and there really isn't that much information that doesn't come from sales sites. That bugs me because it means that I am not reading informative information as much as advertising copy. While ad copy may be informative, it isn't unbiased. The information will be targeted towards promoting the companies products.

What's more, bicycle forums are filled with "comfort bikes are OK for starting out but you will eventually want to upgrade to a real bike" attitude. Once again, while they can be informative, they are usually biased. What those aficionados don't understand is that they are, well, aficionados. Their decisions are colored by their own preferences for a certain bicycling niche. They are the people that have decided they like bicycling so much that, in many cases, they have built their life around it.

They are right that comfort bicycles are not for them, but they also have disqualified themselves from talking about comfort bicycles because they are not the people comfort bicycles are designed for.

The market for comfort bikes is one of the fastest growing markets in bicycles. There is a reason for that. People are getting more interested in their health and the price of gas is limiting their movement. They want the short range transportation that bicycles have to offer but don't need the specialization of higher end bikes. They don't need to be hunched over their bikes for off road balance or long distance speed. They want an upright, relaxed postion. They want efficiency but not at the cost of easy of use. That is what comfort bicycles are.
